So, this will be the first post of many. How do I even put into words all that I experienced this weekend at The Influence Conference? Is it too awkward to shopleut from the rooftops "God is good! The internet is real! Jami Nato gave me a big time gospel spanking!"?
I don't think I can explain to you what it's like to talk to these women on an almost daily basis and never meet face to face. More than that, what its like to actually meet them and be smacked in the face with the realization that this is a new tribe of women... this is a gospel centered community.. these are your people. Not once did anyone mention their stats, their numbers, or form any cliques.
If you know me, you know that I am a people person.. that I never let anyone stand alone in the corner or feel on the outside of things. But the funny thing is, even though I had my eye scanning for people who looked uncomfortable or left out I couldn't find anyone. This community had already taken everyone in with open arms and we were all looking forward in the same direction.
Toward the cross.
I realized that all of us have influence. Influence where we work, influence in our homes, influence here on the internet. Every word we say and write means something. Proverbs 18:21(a) says "the tongue has the power of life and death.." God has given us a platform with someone, or lots of someones, how are we choosing to use it?
The speakers were all amazing. I was thrilled to listen to every single speaker I chose and simultaneously wished I could hear the speaker in the other room. From the strategy side I came away with a few new ideas. I have some goals to set, some work to do, and some changes to implement. From the life side I came away rubbed raw and vulnerable by straight up gospel wisdom. I promise promise promise to share more on all of this over the next coming days.
I learned so much from my roommates who are incredible and godly women. I reconnected with old friends (even one from my China days). I met women who I consider a part of my little bloggy community and women I've never met before. I was honored to serve these women as a community leader but, to tell you the truth, I feel like I was ministered to by all of the Influence Conference attendees instead. We laughed together, cried
And the community isn't over just because the weekend is over. Big things are happening at http://www.theinfluencenetwork.com/ so seriously go sign up to be a part of what God is doing here on the internet. I am so excited to grow with all of you!
So, whether you went to the conference or just followed #influenceconf all weekend... what did you learn?
